| Hi everybody! It's the 23rd of August, and I'm in pretty good spirits this week. For one thing, we caught a couple of bad guys recently who we suspect have been bombing our convoys along the road. Capturing suspects sounds like police work, and it is; that's really the best description for what we do over here most days.
As far as what I do, I thought today I'd give you a little idea how I spend an average day. Here's what my schedule will look like tomorrow: 0530 Wake up, wipe sleep from eyes, put on PT uniform in the dark 0600 Out for a 3-4 mile run with a couple other guys. It's not mandatory, but if I want to run, it's the only time of day to do it. The sun is not quite up, and it's probably 85 degrees with a warm 15 mile an hour wind. 0630 Shave, shower, eat breakfast bar in my room 0700 Operations and intelligence briefing. I give the devotion for the day. 0745 Call home (it's about 10:45 PM back home). Talk to Michelle for 1/2 hour or so. Wish I could be there in person. 0830 Private devotional time 0900 Devotion with my chaplain assistant, then arrange his tasks for the day 1000 Worship band rehearsal 1130 Lunch at the chow hall, together with a few hundred of my close friends. 1300 R&R Brief. Every soldier going home for 2 weeks of leave gets a briefing from yours truly about the challenges of transition from a war zone to the real world. Every week I give this brief and break a commandment, because I covet these guys going home. 1400 - 1730 Visits, correspondance, administration, etc. 1730 Dinner at the chow hall. Every night has a specific theme, repeated over and over each week. Tonight's theme was seafood. I don't remember what tomorrow is, nor do I really care much. I either take what's there or eat Ramen noodles from our chapel microwave. 1900 Bible study. We're currently reading "Every Man's Battle: Winning the War on Sexual Temptation". We have a great group of guys. 2030 Relax or provide counseling, depending on how many soldiers want to see me. 2300 Get some shut eye! I guess that's a pretty typical day. It's busy enough to keep time moving, without feeling totally rushed. I know that my wife does twice that much in every day, so give her the credit for making this deployment work, not me. God be good to you! |
