Return to Messages from Pastor Steve
January 23, 2006
Hi, everybody! This is my first post of many to come from my mobilization in Operation Iraqi Freedom. I said goodbye to Michelle on Thursday and flew a commercial flight into New Orleans, where I rode a bus into Camp Shelby, MS. That morning, saying goodbye to Michelle and my daughters, was without a doubt the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life. Another chaplain said that it would feel like someone just took out your heart and stomped it into the ground; he was right. But I'm here, and I'm immediately "engaged in the mission" as we say in the Army. Our accommodations are WWII bunk beds, in a barracks with a whole row of guys; not exactly comfortable, but not the worst I've ever slept in, either. I miss you all, and I ask for your prayers that I will be able to transition well into an Army unit that has been running full speed since October. Right now, I feel like I'm crawling at best, but I need to get up to speed in a hurry.

God be good to you!
